AMARILLO, TEXAS -- One in five adults in Amarillo does not have a high school diploma.
That's a fact KACV-TV is now working to change.
Earlier in the summer, KACV received one of 41 nationwide American Graduate Community Engagement Grants to help raise awareness about what some would call the "dropout crisis". KACV will use the grant money to develop special programs, host community summits and online town hall meetings and target youth involvement to promote continued education.
"As a public television station, our mission is to bring information to the community, educate the community, inform the community," said KACV-TV General Manager, Linda Pitner. "So this was a way for us to bring information to our community about the issues that we have in our Amarillo area."
