CANYON, TEXAS -- The man accused of murdering an Amarillo couple more than two years ago pleaded guilty in a Randall County Court Wednesday afternoon.
District Attorney James Farren said Wilbert Ramon Banks was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
In August 2009, Banks was indicted on capital murder and aggravated assault charges in the April 2009 shooting deaths of Stephanie Beard and Daniel Brittain, both 24.
According to police, Banks is responsible for both of the victim's deaths. The couple allegedly were letting Bank's estranged girlfriend stay at their home.
Authorities believe Banks went to the couple's Amarillo home to look for his girlfriend. His girlfriend is also the mother of one of his children, police said.
Prosecutors allege that after Banks shot Beard and Brittain, he then held the gun to his former' girlfriend's head and threatened to kill her.
Banks later surrendered in Potter County where he remained on a $1 million bond.
