AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Supreme Court has been asked by the Texas Attorney General to stay a federal court ruling to keep the state from implementing a new redistricting map.

The new lines could increase minority representation in the state legislature, and according to State Representative Four Price, Attorney General Greg Abbott asked for it because filing for elections started Monday and will run until December 15th.

"It's the states contention that, those maps have been re-drawn for temporary use for the 2012 election cycle and that they are not consistent with the legislature's desires."

The current map that has been drawn could lead to greater minority representation and give democrats a chance to add as many as 12 seats in the legislature.

Representative Price also announced Monday, that he will be running for a second term as the lawmaker representing Texas state house district 87.
