BORGER, TEXAS -- After much success in its Refrigerator Donations Sale, Ralls Appliance donated refrigerators stocked with food to seven families in need.
According to Store Owner Jack Klaus, last year's positive customer feedback and sales convinced him to make the sale an annual event.
Klaus said the idea for the sale came to him when he noticed customers being drawn to the big chain stores with promises of discounted prices. He wanted to show customers his store offered the same appliances for the same prices, and he hoped knowing their money would go toward a donation would entice them even more.
Those who did purchase from Ralls Appliance received a five-year warranty and a help guarantee from the service department.
"We've had some tough, tough times, especially during the 80s," Klaus said. "So, we know what it's like to struggle and it feels really good to help those people that are struggling right now in this economy. Hopefully, they'll get back on their feet and they can pay it forward later on."
Last year's and this year' sales combined have contributed nearly $19,000 in refrigerators and food donated to struggling families.
Ralls Appliance teamed up with The Salvation Army which chose the families who would be awarded the surprise, United Supermarkets which donated the food, General Electric and Whirlpool.
