AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Police Department could soon be getting a purchasing contract of more than $50,000 dollars to purchase 10 new in-car video cameras.

With the recent addition of more officers to the force, Corporal Jerry Neufeld says one thing that means is new cars will be going online soon, and the cameras that aren't put in there will be put into unmarked detective cars.

Detectives will use them by day, and patrols by night.

"That could be a Dodge that could be any number of vehicles we use. We've even got pick-ups, but we want them to be equipped just like a patrol car, with the computer and the camera and everything in it just like a regular car."

That camera item will be on the agenda during this week's City Commission meeting.
