Amarillo men arrested for stealing lotto tickets

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Luck was not the side of two men who are now now behind bars after police said they stole lottery tickets from a convenience store Friday night.

Police were initially called out to the Toot-N-Totum at 421 Tascosa Road at about 10:30 Friday night. Officers said an individual had walked into the store and immediately grabbed a lottery ticket dispenser and ran out the door. A second man appeared to have been acting as a lookout and held the door open as the suspect left the store, polcie said.

As police were gathering information, they received a call from the Toot-N-Totum in the 2100 block of Plains. The caller said two guys were hanging out in front of the store and acting suspicious. Upon arrival, police said they saw an individual exiting the store and getting into a Chevrolet Pickup.

A store employee then alerted police that the make just tried to cash in about $50 worth of lottery tickets. The officer then pulled over the pickup.

Inside the pickup were four adults and a five-month-old infant. Also found inside the truck were numerous scratch off lottery tickets.

All subjects inside the pickup were taken in for questioning. The five-month-old was released to a family member, police said.

John Keith Lusk, 19, and Jimmy Dillon East, 22, both of Amarillo were arrested and charged with Theft over $1500 and under $20,000. Lusk was also arrested on three outstanding traffic warrants.
