AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 41-year-old man was sentenced in federal court Wednesday for a charge of possession with intent to distribute heroin.

41-year-old Fernando Selgado Martinez was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Sarah R. SaldaƱa said.

Martinez pleaded guilty back in December 2011 to the drug charge.

According to court documents, Martinez was stopped by a DPS Trooper in October 2011 on Interstate 40 in Carson County. Consent to search the vehicle was granted and numerous bundles of heroin were found, court documents said. The heroin weighed approximately 22 kilograms and was found in a hidden compartment of the vehicle.
