AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A head-on crash Wednesday evening was responsible for the death of three people, police said.
The crash happened in the 300 block of South Lakeside at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. According to police, 88-year-old Frank Eugene Basler, of Amarillo, was driving a 1986 Ford Ranger southbound in the northbound lanes.
Police said the pickup collided with a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by David Elmon Wiseman, 73, of Panhandle. Inside was his wife, Alice Jane Wiseman, 66. They were both transported to a local hospital where they both died as a result of the injuries they received from the crash, police said.
Basler, the driver of the Ford Ranger, died at the scene, police said.
In addition, police said a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 that was northbound clipped the Toyota as he was trying to avoid the two vehicles. He was not injured.
Autopsies were ordered by a Justice of the Peace on the deceased.
Police said excessive speed and alcohol were not factors in this crash. It remains under investigation.
