SPEARMAN, TEXAS -- A man from Elgin, Okla. has been charged for stealing 27 head of cattle from a feedyard in Hansford County, TSCRA said.
TSCRA, or the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, said Jason Mark Anderson, 35, was arrested earlier this month for allegedly stealing 27 steers from U.S.A Feedyard in Gruver. An indictment in the case had been handed down to a Hansford County Grand Jury six days prior.
Anderson was held at the Hansford County Jail in Spearman. He bonded out on a bail of $15,000, TSCRA said.
According to TSCRA Special Ranger Ben Eggleston, Anderson used his own semi to transport the cattle to the Oklahoma City Stockyards. He then sold then to a livestock commission company. The cows were later uncovered at Hitch Feeders in Hooker, Okla.
Theft of 27 head of cattle is a third degree felony, TSCRA said. Anderson faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
