GROOM, TEXAS -- Traveling on Interstate 40 at Groom will be a little more congested until the fall.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said it's starting a reconstructing project on a five and a half mile stretch of I-40 at Groom. This area is commonly referred to as the "Groom Bypass."
The total cost of the project is $4.8 million.
TxDOT said both the eastbound and westbound passing lanes will be closed. Only one lane will be open on each side.
Motorists are reminded to use extra caution when traveling through work zones.
The project is slated to start on Monday and should be complete by late fall, TxDOT said.
