CANYON, TEXAS -- The city of Canyon is on a mission to clean up the Palo Duro Creek.

The city has started clearing out dead trees and debris to help with water flow.

Saturday some WT students got involved.

Maria Molina was among them. She is a student from Ecuador and is about to graduate and leave WT and Canyon.

"We decided it would be a good way to give back to Canyon and our community," Molina said.

She says Canyon has been the perfect fit for her and loves that she can help the community before she leaves.

Winston Stahlecker lives near the creek. He helped organize the clean-up.

"It's such a beautiful little creek," he said. "But it isn't the way it is right now."

He encouraged the students to stay away from the water because it is so thick with muck and debris.

Stahlecke and the students hope the community will do its part to keep the creek clean.
