DIMMITT, TEXAS -- A book signing took place in Dimmit, Texas today at the First United Bank. "Letters for Coach," a book dedicated to the legacy of Kenneth Cleveland was released today and years and years of Bobcat Alumni were present. Cleveland was struck by lightning and died in 1993. Though the death of the 32 year basketball coach was tragic, he will now be remembered in the community of Dimmitt and elsewhere, forever. "He was just a great person, he was just the type of person that, gave you confidence in what you do. He was a man of few words a lot of times, but just the way he carried himself he expected us to play the game of basketball right and to play as a team, to play with a desire and passion for the game" Said former Bobcat John Smith. The love for the game was tremendous in the coaching of Cleveland, but also in the letters from former players in this book. Widow Libby Cleveland said, "It is a book that the boys wrote, every page is a different boy telling what they remember it's very inspiring. I've shed tears, I've laughed, everyday has been something different, and that's what it is here for. It's not telling how to coach, it's telling from a boy's point of view, how to be coached." Coach Cleveland lead the Bobcats to 27 district championships, 11 state tournament appearances and 3 state titles in just 32 years, and now there is a book dedicated to that legacy.
