OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's unemployment rate was up slightly in July - but remains more than 3 percent below the national jobless rate. The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reports today that unemployment in the state was up two-tenths of a percentage point from June to stand at 4.9 percent in July. The national unemployment rate is 8.3 percent.
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - Authorities have seized more than 20 pounds of crystal methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Muskogee County. Sheriff Charles Pearson says the stop happened yesterday afternoon on Interstate 40 near Webbers Falls. The sheriff says the drugs have a street value of $1 million. Authorities say a man was driving from Fort Worth, Texas, to Fort Smith, Arkansas when he was pulled over in Muskogee County. The suspect has been booked in the county jail.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Researchers at Oklahoma State University say people shouldn't be shocked when they see fish floating belly-up at lakes in the Stillwater area. Scientists are using a technology called electro-fishing to gather the fish for research. The researchers zap the fish with electricity then bring them into the laboratory.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma women's basketball team has completed a series of preseason games in Australia by beating Sydney University 70-59. OU went 4-0 during the 10-day tour with wins over Townsville, Dandenong and Maitland. The Sooner ladies are due to arrive back in Norman tomorrow.
