SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A new financial forecast estimates more than $270 million will be available to lawmakers and Gov. Susana Martinez for budget increases next year. Top officials in the Martinez administration outlined the revenue projections today to the Legislative Finance Committee during a meeting in Angel Fire.
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Nuclear watchdogs are questioning a proposal to ship tons of plutonium to New Mexico, including the cores of nuclear warheads that would be dismantled at an aging and structurally questionable lab atop a major earthquake fault zone. Opponents are voicing their opposition at a series of public hearings that opened this week on how best to dispose of the plutonium.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside a home in southeast part of the city. Police spokesman Robert Gibbs says the victims were discovered yesterday evening and a homicide investigation in under way. KRQE-TV reports police aren't saying whether the deaths are a murder-suicide.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The wife of the late Johnny Tapia is slated to discuss details surrounding the sudden death of the six-time world boxing champion today in front of the boxer's Team Tapia gym. A statement from the family says a doctor also will answer questions related to Tapia's death in May. According to a police report, Tapia suspected her husband had access to illegal drugs days before he died.
