CANYON, TX -- Canyon High School’s March-A-Thon proved to be more than just a fundraiser. Band members have endured the ten mile march through the city for twenty five years and some members said that it’s more than a band, it’s a family. "It's our first big accomplishment together and so it kind of helps prep for the rest of the year. It's very exciting when everyone finally finishes the super long, you know, super-hot event and it's really great to overcome this big obstacle, I guess you can say, as a team,” said Senior Drum Major, Brook Castleberry.
The soaring pride marching band and people from the community joined forces and raised funds for the band’s trips and events throughout the school year.
Nearly one hundred and sixty participants designated their time and effort toward the event all summer. Band Head Director, Make Sheffield said, "It's our biggest fundraiser of the year, this is our March-A-Thon, we march exactly ten miles around the city. It's great for us in that it builds camaraderie but it's also great because we get to see the community and the community gets to see us and it helps us raise funds for necessary items and for trips."
Sheffield mentioned that the event wasn’t only for practice but it truly helped build awareness and support from the community.
CHS’s Band is still tallying up this year’s donations but in previous years members raised around thirteen thousand dollars.
