AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Monday morning at 9:00 a.m., the jury in the murder trial for Paul David Gillette reconvened to determine his official sentence.

After nearly four hours of deliberation, the jury sentenced Gillette with 45 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

That sentence came after hearing from both the Prosecution and Defense. The Prosecution had originally asked the jury for a life sentence saying, "Paul gave Sherri a life sentence". When the Defense took the floor, it asked for a shorter jail time as well as for some of the latter years of that sentence to be spent in some kind of halfway house.

After hearing the final sentence, the Defense did mention that it would file a motion for a new trial. Before that is considered, though, the Defense must file an extensive amount of paperwork for that appeal.
