HOUSTON (AP) - Authorities haven't yet released the name of a 25-year-old man who fell to his death last night during the Texans' game at Reliant Stadium in Houston. The man was on an escalator and fell about 60 feet to the ground. Police are still investigating the circumstances but they say the fall appears to be accidental.

MESQUITE, Texas (AP) - Garland police shot and killed a man early today following a chase that ended in neighboring Mesquite. Police say the officer opened fire after a suspect drove his truck into a squad car. The dead man is identified as 25-year-old Michael Allen of Wylie.

NEW YORK (AP) - Fort Worth-based American Airlines and US Airways may be closer to a merger. The companies say they've signed legal documents allowing them to confidentially exchange information. American's parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last November.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A new study says scrapping the guaranteed pension benefit for future school employees in Texas would be costly and reduce benefits for retirees. State lawmakers mandated the study last year. Critics of the public pensions vow to continue their push to convert teachers to a 401(k)-style benefit plan.
