SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A coalition is working to get New Mexicans registered to vote. The League of Women Voters of New Mexico, Common Cause New Mexico and the national Voter Participation Center are working to get people signed up by the Oct. 9 deadline for the Nov. 6 election.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 2-year-old boy injured in an Albuquerque crash involving a suspected drunken driver has died. KOB-TV cites the Albuquerque Police Department in saying that Vicente Griego's family took him off life support yesterday. Authorities say the car he was riding in was hit Saturday by 20-year-old Mariano Salaz Jr.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Alamo man convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of an infant was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison. According to a criminal complaint, 31-year-old Kalvest Ganadonegro shook a 10-month-old infant that he had been babysitting in 2008, killing her.
HOUSTON (AP) - The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. declined by four this week to 1,894. Baker Hughes Inc. reports today that 1,419 rigs were exploring for oil and 473 were searching for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous. Among the states, New Mexico gained two.
