FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A military judge says the Army psychiatrist charged in Fort Hood rampage must be clean-shaven or will be forcibly shaved before his murder trial. The order came today after a hearing to determine whether a federal religious freedom law applied to Major Nidal Hasan's case.
HENDERSON, Texas (AP) - Two men serving life prison terms for abducting five people from a Kilgore KFC and killing them want new tests on evidence in the case. Romeo Pinkerton and Darrell Hartsfield are questioning the reliability of DNA tests that linked them to the 1983 killings. But a prosecutor says the convictions are solid.
HOUSTON (AP) - The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Texas is now $3.66. The auto club says the price has dropped a penny this week. The most expensive gasoline in the state is in Texarkana. El Paso has the cheapest average price.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Construction crews have begun posting 85 mile-per-hour speed limit signs for a stretch of toll road between Austin and San Antonio that could open in November. It would be the highest speed limit in the country. The speed limit's already 80 on some rural highways in West Texas.
