Amarillo unites in prayer

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Identified through different denominations and associated with different churches, the Christian people of Amarillo united for one cause Thursday night; to preserve their first amendment rights.

Director of Operations Rick Phillips said, "We started meeting, all the different denominations and this is a dream of the Bishop Zurek; that all the churches in Amarillo come together and we break down the denomination walls and come together in unity. Through that unity is one voice, we can cry out for our religious liberty we deserve from the United States of America."

The bill of rights was ratified in 1791. It was written to protect natural rights and liberties, and within the document, the right to freedom of religion.

"We're here as a community of faith of all the Christian peoples in the Amarillo area, to pray precisely for that," said Bishop of Amarillo Patrick J. Zurek. "We want to maintain the freedoms that our people, men and woman for two centuries now have fought to preserve."

Because there is a fear that we may not one day, have the right to our own beliefs, how we practice our faith and official ministries, has sparked a bond among the churches.

"This is not the time to be timid. This is the time to speak up because when we lose the freedom, it's lost," said Zurek.
