Two people were seriously injured in an accident when the vehicle they were driving was hit by a truck that was crossing the highway.

Antonio Madrid, 30, of Hereford, driving a 2004 Ford F150, was attempting to cross US 60, near Caviness, from a private drive when he struck a west bound vehicle on the drivers side of the vehicle.

Diana Flores, 20, of Hereford was driving a 2002 Nissan Ultima, west on US 60. Madrid failed to yield the right of way and collided with the Flores' was driving, sending vehicle spinning into the right lane of US 60 westbound. The truck was sent into the middle median.

Madrid received non-incapacitating injuries, but was airlifted by AeroCare to University Hospital in Lubbock.

Flores received incapacitating injuries, as did another passenger of the car, Guadalupa Chaparro, 47. Both were taken by LifeStar to University Hospital.

Two other passengers in the back of the Ultima, Dale Dennis Guerrero, 29, and Rosalinda Rodriguez-Salazar, 48, who were not wearing seatbelts, were taken by ambulance to Hereford Regional Medical Center.

Drugs and alcohol are contributing factors according to Trooper Michael Villanueva of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
