Woman charged with manslaughter in wreck that killed 2 teens

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A Washington state woman was arrested and charged with two separate counts of manslaughter for the January 2012 crash that killed two 19-year-old women.

Caroline Nygaard of Vancouver, Wash., was arrested last Friday after the charges were accepted by the 47th District Attorney's Office.

Police said their investigation inclided examination of the information retained in the vehicle's electronic modules afer impact.

On January 22, Amarillo Police said Kaylin Pearson and Kerniece Johns, both 19, died at the scene of the crash, in the 2700 block of West Amarillo Boulevard.

Officers responded just after 1:00 a.m., Sunday where a white 2001 Cadillac four-dour vehicle had been traveling southbound. Police said the vehicle turned left in front of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling eastbound.

The front of the Tahoe struck the passenger side of the Cadillac, police said.

As for the driver and a passenger of the Tahoe, they were not injured. The Tahoe was driven by Caroline Nygaard.
