AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 30-year-old Amarillo man is being charged on multiple charges after leading police on a chase throughout Amarillo on Wednesday afternoon.
The chase came to an end at the Walmart on Coulter Street, police said.
At 3 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of North Virginia Street to meet with Randall County Sheriff's Deputies. Police said the Deputies located a Ford F250 pickup that had been reported stolen.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped away, police said.
The pickup was initially pursued but was soon discontinued because of the driver's erratic and dangerous driving, police said.
A helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety was used to monitor the pickup while police attempted to follow it and keep visual contact.
Police said the pickup continued south on Western Street, west on Interstate 40, south on Bell Street and west on 45th Avenue before pulling into the parking lot of the Walmart on Coulter and 45th Avenue.
The suspect ran into the store while tucking or holding something in his waistband, police said. An officer pursued the suspect on foot while running through the store. Police said the suspect was pushing his way by employees.
Witnesses told police the suspect had a gun. The suspect eventually exited the store into the back lot and fell behind an electrical service box.
Police said the officer drew his gun and approached. The suspect, according to police, had a semi-automatic handgun. He dropped the gun when ordered to do so by the officer, police said.
The suspect was held at gunpoint until a Trooper and other officers arrived.
Miles Allen Minor, 30, was taken into custody. Police said he was found to be in possession of identifying documents and credit cards that were not his.
He was booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, failure to identify/false identification, tampering with a government document, fraudulent use of identifying information, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
