More than $330K worth of marijuana seized on I-40

CONWAY, TEXAS -- More than $330,000 worth of marijuana was seized Wednesday during two routine traffic stops on interstate 40, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

During the first stop, which occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m., a highway patrol officer searched a 2011 Ford traveling east and recovered five trash bags in the trunk of the vehicle that contained 50 sealed bags of marijuana, according to the news release.

The driver, Aaron A. Grove, 29, of San Carlos, Calif., was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, a third degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail, DPS said.

Grove was allegedly transporting the 58 pounds of marijuana from Calif., to Arkansas, DPS said.

A second stop, seven miles east of Conway yielded three pounds a marijuana with an estimated value of $16,891, DPS said.

Tyler Richardson Diaz, 45, of Santa Monica, Calif., and his passenger Laura Marie Doyle, 53, were driving a 2003 Subaru Forester when patrol officers pulled them over for a signaling violation. Highway patrol officers searched the vehicle with a DPS K-9 unit and discovered the drugs the cargo area of the vehicle inside of a Christmas wrapped box, DPS said.

The vehicle was allegedly transporting the marijuana from San Carlos, Calif., to Asheville, North Carolina.

Both Diaz and Doyle were arrested for possession of marijuana and booked into the Carson County Jail, DPS said.
