Amarillo and Canyon schools respond to Conn. school shooting

Tragedy struck Friday morning in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School when shots were fired inside the school.
27 people were killed in Friday's shootings, including several children and adults, local officials said.
The alleged gunman was reportedly the son a Kindergarten teacher at the school.
The investigation is ongoing as more details develop.
Area schools remained open in light of the events.
Amarillo and Canyon Independent School Districts released the following statements.
'We are terribly saddened by the tragedy in Connecticut and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and staff members involved. School safety is of the utmost importance on all Canyon ISD campuses and the district has safety procedures in place that are practiced regularly throughout the year. Again, our deepest condolences are extended to the victims of today's tragedy."
"Our hearts go out to the families, staff, and students of the elementary school in Connecticut that experienced the shooting this morning. We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives from this senseless tragedy. There is no indication that this is anything but an isolated incident in a state far from Texas, but we do want to assure our parents and community that we have security procedures and processes in place at all of our schools. The safety of our students is always of the utmost concern."
