Amarillo Police officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Hillside after a man struck a power line pole with his vehicle.

According to police, 42-year-old Ernest Galvel Lopez Jr. was speeding eastbound on Hillside when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a power line pole.

Lopez was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Amarillo Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash is currently under investigation by APD's Traffic Investigation Squad.
