AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Hello everyone. Welcome to the 2009 high school football season and the football season in general. This will be my 27th year covering pigskin play in the Panhandle and the excitement and buildup to the season continues to grow and grow. Area Texas schools are coming off a number of impressive showings in 2008, including state championships won by Canadian, Stratford and Muleshoe. In six man football, Follett lost to Strawn in the title game. New Mexico schools made a great showing in the 2008 post-season with Portales, Texico and Melrose winning titles while Clayton and San Jon lost in title games.

The first Friday for Texas and New Mexico at hand, starting on August 28. The Oklahoma schools kickoff the following week. make sure to tune in to KVII-TV for highs school coverage throughout every week of the season, plus join me on the "Blitz" every Friday night. The fun begins at 10:10 pm, and I will have all the highlights and scores from the ProNews viewing area. Weekend Sports Anchor Brian Wilkerson will showcase a game of the week every Friday while newsman and high school football junkie, Kale Steed will also take part in the Friday night fun. So, enjoy football for 2009 and I will see you at the stadium.
