OPSU football coach Mike Wyatt passes away
GOODWELL, OKLA. -- Mike Wyatt, head football coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, passed away Sunday morning of an apparent heart attack. He was 55 years-old.
The Guymon Daily Herald reports that Wyatt was an OPSU graduate, and had a successful coaching career at the high school and collegiate levels. He earned many awards and honors coaching arena football in this country and also in the European professional league. He was an assistant coach at OPSU in the early 1980s and returned to his alma mater as the head coach in 2007.
In the spring of this year, the members of the Aggie team set a goal to have their first winning season since 2004, and under Wyatt's leadership, they attained that goal with a 6-5 record.
Wyatt is survived by a daughter, Brandi Wyatt.
