AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Sox announced the signing of three players to the 2011 roster.  Former Pensacola Pelicans infielder Boomer Blanchard and pitcher Lee Henry will join the team along with former El Paso catcher Benji Johnson. The 5-11, 185 lbs Boomer Blanchard resides in New Iberia, Louisiana.  After attending college at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, the right-handed infielder signed with Worcester of the Canadian-American League.  In 39 games with Worcester, Blanchard hit .273 and was traded to Pensacola in the off-season.  Knoxville, Tennessee-native Lee Henry will begin his second professional season after attending college at Tennessee Tech.  The 5-10, 185 lbs right-handed pitcher went 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and three saves in 20 relief appearances with the Pelicans in 2010. “It’s important to get smart, young players on the roster,” said Sox manager John Harris.  “You can’t underestimate how much Boomer’s defense and Lee out of the bullpen will help.”  Third-year catcher Benji Johnson resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he also went to college at the University of North Carolina.  The 6-1, 185 lbs right-hander was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 17th round of the 2007 draft and advanced up to Gwinett (AAA-International League) in 2009.  After being released in 2010, Johnson joined El Paso in the American Association.  Johnson was named to the All-Star team with a .305 batting average to go along with 10 homeruns and 35 RBI.  “I’m very excited to have Benji on the team,” said Harris.  “Benji gives us stability behind the plate and there’s no reason he won’t be one of the elite catchers in this league.”
