AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The banged up Amarillo Sox opened a seven game road trip on a good note Monday night, winning 9-5 at Wichita.

Sox manager John Harris having a tough time finding players, thanks to a series of injuries.

In fact, Harris had to activate one of his coaches and he signed a player from the Pecos League just to have a starting lineup against the Wingnuts. Fortunately the pitching staff is injury free and that could be a key until the injured players return.

The victory moves the Sox to 34-29 on the season and they now trail division leader Grand Prairie by 5 and a half games and stay 4 and a half back in the wild card race. Game two of the series is Tuesday night with righty Ryan Mitchell scheduled to start.

For the second straight week a Sox hurler named AAL pitcher of the week. On heels of Mitchell earning the honor, Justin Garcia the top pitcher in the league.
