The #11 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M rebounded from a weekend loss on Tuesday night as they swept the rival Zias of Eastern New Mexico (25-7, 25-7, 25-9) in front of over 450 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box”. The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 17-3 (8-2 LSC) while the Zias fall to 6-14 (1-9 LSC) on the season.

 

“Tonight was a good bounce back win after last Saturday” said WT head coach Jason Skoch “Our outsides hit the ball really well which is showed in hitting .529 as a team and our defense was solid.”

 

The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 57-11 all-time against Eastern New Mexico including taking the last 12 meetings dating back to the 2004 season. The sweep also marks the 14th time this season that the Lady Buffs have taken care of their opponents in straight sets.

 

The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Halie Harton and Erin Dougherty with nine kills each followed by Lexi Davis and Kameryn Hayes with six kills each. Senior setter Lacy Hayes dished out 34 assists while Lauren Beville tallied 23 digs and her first career kill to end the match. The Lady Buffs hit .529 as a team with three attack errors and seven total blocks.

 

The Zias were led by Macy Mitchell and Kaitlyn Maddams with five kills each followed by Paige Gardner with four. Kennedi Catano dished out 16 assists and Dallas Russell tallied 11 digs. ENMU hit -0.053 as a team with 22 attack errors and no blocks on the night.

 

The Lady Buffs return to action this weekend as they host the Pioneers of Texas Woman’s on Friday night with first serve set for 7 p.m. followed by a matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at The Box.
