The suspect who barricaded himself inside a home was taken into police custody.

Police were able to use tear gas inside the home.

The man stepped out and is now underdoing medical evaluation. police said.

A controlled release was conducted at Forrest Hills Elementary School because of a police standoff Monday afternoon, police said.

Parents of children at the school were able to pick their children up at the south side only.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area of Amarillo Boulevard and North Grand.

Police were originally called to the area because a man was reportedly trying to harm himself at his home. That home was located in the 3600 block of 10th.

No arrests have been made.
