AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Police have released the 2012 crime rates.
According to the report, overall crime in Amarillo fell 5% from crime rates released in 2011 with the largest decreases being in Arson and Larceny theft. The number of Arson cases fell 23.9% and Larceny Theft rates dropped 9.50%.
While overall crime numbers have dropped, the city has seen an increase in the number of robbery offenses which were reported at 18.3% with 43 offenses for 2012.
Aside from robbery cases, Amarillo Police also saw an increase in the number of rape, car thefts, burglary and aggravated assault cases.
Amarillo Police Chief Taylor recognizes the Department's use of directed patrols as a key factor in decreasing the city's crime rates.
APD also released the number of calls and arrests the Department made.
According to the release, APD responded to 133, 690 calls and made 12, 402 arrests in 2012.
