2 Lady Buffs shined bright this past weekend

CANYON, TEXAS -- Two West Texas A&M University athletes have earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week Accolades. Ashley Davis and Erika Dupree were both recognized for their efforts on the court this past weekend. Davis earned LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Dupree got the nod for LSC Setter of the Week.

Ashley Davis a WT freshman, graduated from Randall High in 2009, and contributed heavily to the Lady Buffs offensive attack this past weekend. That attack netted 42 kills with a .316 hitting percentage, helping the Lady Buffs to a 3-1 mark in the season-opening BritKare Lady Buff Classic. She ranked fifth among all tournament players, averaging 3.00 kills per set, while her .316 attak percentage ranked 10th among all players. She also served up three aces, recorded 17 digs and assisted in two blocks on the weekend as well.

WT Junior, Erika Dupree, of Mesquite didn't disappoint as the Lady Buffs' primary setter. She went on to collect 101 assists while running WT's 6-2 offence. She made contributions all over the court, and netted her first career triple-double on Friday in WT's win over St. Edward's, recording 11 kills, 29 assists, and 14 digs. She was just one kill shy in the first match from having collected a pair of triple-doubles. She ranked sixth out of all setters in the tournament as she finished the weekend averaging 6.31 assists per set. She recorded a total of 30 kills, two aces, 47 digs, and nine assisted blocks on the weekend as well.

Both Davis and Dupree landed spots on the all-tournament team following their performances, which was voted on by opposing coaches.

The Lady Buffs will be in action this weekend at the Colorado Premier Tournament in Denver, Colorado. The tournament, consists of 11 teams, nine of which are ranked in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll.
