Three Local Standouts Ink Letters-of-Intent to Attend WTAMU
CANYON, TEXAS -- West Texas A&M University women’s basketball coach Krista Gerlich has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters-of-intent to attend WTAMU and play for the Lady Buffs during the 2010-11 season.
A 5-6 point guard from Wall High (Texas), Sally Higgins has earned multiple accolades in her prep career. She is a two-time all-district first team honoree, two-time TGCA All-State, and was a 2A All West Texas MVP as a junior and the district newcomer of the year as a freshman. Last season, Higgins was selected to the TABC all-Region team as well as the TABC All-State team.
“Sally Higgins is a hard-nosed competitor that soaks up all the knowledge she can about the game of basketball,” said head coach Krista Gerlich. “I know Sally will run through a wall for us and she is only going to get better and better as she adjusts to the college game.”
Joining the Lady Buffs from Sudan High in Sudan, Texas is 6-0 forward Lacee Logan. Logan earned both TABC and TGCA All-State recognition as a freshman and junior. She was also named the district MVP in both of those seasons as well as a Texas Basketball Magazine All-State player. Logan is currently averaging 31.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds pper game.
“Lacee Logan will be an exciting player for our fans to watch,” Gerlich said. “With the departure of long-range bomber Holly Isaacs, Lacee will be able to fill that role when outside shooting is what we need. Her range is unbelievable. Lacee can post up, get to the rim, and shoot from the perimeter. I’m excited to have a player of Lacee’s caliber and winning experience.”
A local product from Canyon High (Texas), Jordan Vessels joins the squad as a 6-0 forward. She helped her team to a State Championship as a junior and was named to the second team all-District. She is a Panhandle Plains Pre-season Super Team member this season.
“Jordan Vessels is a great sign for us because number one, she’s local, so our fans will already know her,” Gerlich said. “Number two, she’s a six-foot perimeter player that has a really nice jumper and who understands the game. Plus, she has been coached by the best in Coach Lombard. I think Jordan will fit nicely and quickly into our lineup.”
“This signing class is very exciting for Lady Buff basketball,” Gerlich added. “ These girls all come from winning high school programs and they know what championships are all about. These three will not disappoint.”
