AMARILLO,TEXAS -- The 41st winner of the Blair Cherry award is Palo Duro graduate and current West Texas A&M defensive back, Tae Evans. The award, named for the former Amarillo High and University of Texas coach, honors the top college football player from one of the four AISD schools. This past season, Evans recorded 72 tackles including 48 solo and had three interceptions.
The other nominees were Jonathan Wise of Amarillo High and Hardin-Simmons and Anthony Scott of Tascosa and West Texas A&M.
Presented by the Palo Duro Chapter of the American Business Club. Along with the award, two scholarships will go to students at Palo Duro worth $500 and $1000.
Finally, a proclamation signed by Mayor Debra McCartt presented to Evans declaring today "Tae Evans Day" in Amarillo.
