UNDATED (AP) - The Yankees and Red Sox resume their rivalry tonight in New York. The home team will hand the ball to 5-and-0 Phil Hughes. Boston counters with 2-and-1 Daisuke Matsuzaka. At 24-and-13, the Yanks have the third-best record in the major leagues, but trail Tampa Bay by two games in the American League East race. The Red Sox are 19-and-19 and seven and a-half games off the pace in the division race.
The Rays will be seeking a third straight win when they send 3-and-0 Jeff Niemann to the mound to face 4-and-1 Fausto Carmona of the Cleveland Indians.
Also in the AL tonight, Toronto will be working on a four-game winning streak when it hosts Minnesota, Detroit is home to the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore entertains Kansas City, the L.A. Angels bring a three-game winning streak to Texas to face a Rangers club that's dropped three straight, and Oakland will be out to end a five-game slide when it hosts Seattle.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be shooting for an eighth straight win tonight when they host a Houston team riding a three-game losing streak.
The rest of this evening's NL slate has Philadelphia with a three-game winning streak on the line against visiting Pittsburgh, Florida working on a four-game winning streak against Arizona, Milwaukee looking to end a six-game skid at Cincinnati, Atlanta hosting the New York Mets, Colorado at the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis hosting Washington and San Francisco at San Diego.
