TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - The Kansas Board of Regents' chairwoman says her state is relieved by the Big 12 Conference's survival.

Jill Docking said in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday that Kansas officials were united about wanting to see the conference continue with 10 members.

The Board of Regents oversees the University of Kansas and Kansas State University. Docking said they're better off after the conference decided to remain together.

The Big 12 looked to be on the brink of collapse last week, after the universities of Colorado and Nebraska announced their intent to leave by 2012.

But the University of Texas committed to staying, and other Texas and Oklahoma schools followed.

Docking said many details have to be worked out but added Kansans ought to be happy.
