AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Two Panhandle natives will take part in this years College World Series.
2006 Amarillo High grad Tomas Cruz is a member of the Clemson baseball team. The Tigers beat Alabama to advance to the CWS. Cruz also pitched at Seward County College in Kansas before going east. So far, in the 2010 season Cruz has appeared in 23 games, has a 3-3 record and 5.79 era and 3 saves.
Dalhart grad Todd Whitting will also be a part of the fun in Omaha, Nebraska. Whitting was part of the first class to play baseball in Dalhart when the sport was re-born in 1989. He played college ball at the University of Houston and was an assistant coach with the Cougars for eight years. He is currently the Associate head coach and chief recruiter for TCU. The Horned Frogs earned a berth in the CWS for the first time in school history by beating Texas in a super regional.
