AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A former University of Texas football standout and two-time Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos has been taken off his Austin sports radio show because he's running for public office.

Dan Neil co-hosted a morning talk show on Austin's ESPN affiliate, KTXX, until station officials got concerned about his run for a state House seat. Station officials were worried they would need to provide equal time for Democratic incumbent Rep. Donna Howard if Republican Neil continued on-air.

Neil blames Howard for "forcing" him off the show. Howard says it was the station that first raised the equal time issue.

Howard's campaign said free radio ads and transcripts of Neil's show would satisfy them, but the station decided to keep him off the air instead.

The election is Nov. 2.
