FRITCH, TEXAS -- The Fritch Eagles are currently having amazing success running through the gauntlet of 1A powers. It hasn't been easy beating both Sunray and Stratford in the late moments of both games, but a win is a win to Fritch, especially when some people didn't give them a chance.
"It feels amazing, all we heard is we can't beat those teams. We pulled it out and doing it in the fourth quarter was awesome," said Eagles Quarterback/ Linebacker Tate Murray.
"That's probably the best feeling I had in my life, I got a little emotional everyone played their hearts out," said Fritch Wide Receiver, Defensive End Michael Sanchez.
This team has embraced the underdog role. The players say this gives them the motivation to come out each week with a chip on their shoulder and prove they belong.
"I like being the underdog, it makes us play harder and keep focused and keeps us fired up," said Murray.
"I think it's easier to play the underdog role. It's less pressure on us and nobody outside our locker room gives us a chance, so we feed on that," said Eagle Head Coach Rick Ware.
The road through these 1A power houses isn't over yet. Fritch faces what could be their hardest test yet, in 2 time State Champion Canadian.
"I told my team the hardest game would be against Canadian. So we're going to go out there play hard, and try to improve. We'll also hope no one gets injured, we just want to go in there and play hard and win," said Ware.
We'll see if the Eagles can continue to soar Friday in Canadian.
