FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Former North Dakota State head women's volleyball coach Erich Hinterstocker was warned about a year and a half ago that his job might be in jeopardy because of inappropriate behavior.
Records obtained by The Forum newspaper show that women's athletic director Lynn Dorn wrote in a letter dated July 16, 2009, that Hinterstocker was "over aggressively grabbing an athlete by the uniform/warm up."
Hinterstocker also was warned in 2008 about inappropriate language.
A home telephone listing could not immediately be found for Hinterstocker.
He resigned earlier this week, citing personal reasons. He told The Forum that the way he chose to coach "was all-consuming" and that he needed to step back.
Hinterstocker took the volleyball team to its first NCAA Division I tournament, in 2008.
