AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's a name that may take you back to years past, the Amarillo Gold Sox. ProNews 7 has confirmed that the Southern Independent Baseball League that purchased the former Amarillo Dillas team has decided to name the new team the Amarillo Gold Sox.

The first week of November, the Southern Independent Baseball League reached an agreement with the Potter County Commission to take over the Potter County Memorial Stadium and keep baseball in Amarillo.

Since that time, the community has anxiously awaited the new name for the team, and Friday they announced the name that is a blast from the past, the Gold Sox played at various times between 1939 and 1982 here in Amarillo.

Mark Lee says he's excited to bring the Gold Sox back to Amarillo.

"Our office is open, we opened today, we've got a name for the team and we're bringing back the Amarillo Gold Sox for the 2011 season in the American Association."

Lee pitched for the Gold Sox back in 1977 before eventually advancing to the major leagues.
