AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Former Amarillo High Sandie, and West Texas A&M Offensive Lineman Dan Sherwood took home the 42nd Blair Cherry Award presented by the Amarillo Palo Duro Chapter, of the American Business Club.
Last year's winner Tae Evans from Palo Duro, and Jason Cunningham former Tascosa Rebel and Montana State Kicker were the other nominees.
Sherwood says he was happy to have won it, he already has one degree and is working on his masters. He plans on a coaching and teaching career here in Amarillo.
The Blair Cherry Award goes to the top college football player from one of the four Amarillo Independent School District high schools.
The award is named after the former Amarillo High and University of Texas football coach. Blair Cherry, who died in 1966, won three state titles at AHS in the 1930s, compiling an 84-5 record.
