Mark Cousins has been named interim athletic director for the governing body of Texas public high schools after the resignation of Cliff Odenwald. The University Interscholastic League said Tuesday that Odenwald left the organization Dec. 31 to pursue other opportunities. He was promoted from associate AD in February 2009 when longtime athletic director Charles Breithaupt was named the UIL's executive director. Odenwald oversaw the nation's largest high school steroids testing program after the Texas Legislature approved it in 2007. Funding was scaled back when a small fraction of positive tests were recorded in the program's first year. Cousins has been with the UIL since 1994. He served as directorof several sports before he was named UIL's director of policy in 2009.
