AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Former Denver Broncos player Kevin Alexander faces a trial on charges of assault and battery stemming from a domestic dispute with his girlfriend over alleged infidelity.

Police arrested Alexander Dec. 20 after his girlfriend told police that he slapped or punched her, pushed her to the ground and grabbed her by the throat. Alexendar pleaded not guilty to the charges and his trial is scheduled to begin Thursday.

The 23-year-old Alexander signed with the Broncos in April as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson, and was cut from the team hours after his arrest. Broncos officials called it a football decision to clear a roster spot for cornerback Chevis Jackson.

Alexander is one of five Broncos players to face criminal charges since October.
