CANYON, TEXAS -- West Texas A&M senior infielder Kaitlyn Witte has been named the Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter of the Week announced from the conference’s office in Richardson, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. Witte, a Midland, Texas native, hit .643 with nine RBI and six runs scored as the #7 Lady Buffs went 6-0 this past week, sweeping a doubleheader at New Mexico Highlands and taking four games from Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M-International at the WTAMU Triangular in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are currently 14-1 overall, the best start to a season in program history. They are also on a 10 game win streak coming into this weekend and are undefeated at home. WT will host the Lady Buff Invite this weekend a in Canyon, with Washburn and Eastern New Mexico coming to the Texas Panhandle to play on the artificial surface of Lady Buff Yard in the Buffalo Sports Complex.
West Texas A&M junior infielder Jess Cooper has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week announced from the conference’s office in Richardson, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. Cooper, a Belle Fourche, SD native, continued his hot hitting efforts as the Buffs went 4-0 this past week with a four-game sweep against Northwest Missouri State. Cooper hit .706 with two doubles, a triple, three homeruns and nine RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.471 The Buffs are currently 14-2 overall, the best start to a season in program history. They are also on a nine game win streak coming into this weekend. WT will host #16 Cameron this weekend in a showdown of the top two teams in the LSC standings. The series starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night with doubleheader action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Wilder Park.
