PORTALES, NEW MEXICO -- On February 10, 2011 Eastern New Mexico University received an invitation from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) for consideration of membership.  I appointed the University’s Athletic Committee to study the feasibility of changing conference affiliation.  Joining the committee were head coaches, student-athletes and members of the ENMU Bench Club.  Athletic Director Jeff Geiser was appointed ex-officio.  The committee invited input from alumni and other supporters of ENMU athletics. They held forums with the community, faculty/staff, members of the Athletic Department and student-athletes.  In addition, the committee analyzed large quantities of comparative data. Upon completion of the study, the Feasibility Committee recommended to me that Eastern New Mexico University should continue its membership in the Lone Star Conference, a relationship that has spanned 25 years.  Although the RMAC is a very strong conference and has much to offer, the Athletic Committee felt that the future of ENMU athletics would be better served by membership in the LSC.  I agreed with the committee’s recommendation. We at Eastern look forward to continuing our positive relationship with the LSC, and I appreciated your patience as we worked through this issue.
