High school football is underway in the Pro News Seven viewing area. On Monday, all schools in the tri-state area except those Texas large class schools that held spring drills, opened fall workouts. Teams will workout for the next three and a half weeks with most playing two scrimmages before opening the season on the final weekend of the month. In fact, the first games takes place Thursday the 30th with Friday the 31st the first full night of action. That will also be the first night of the 2012 Blitz on KVII-TV.

 

  Along with football, high school volleyball and fall tennis teams opened workouts. The tennis squads will play their first matches this coming weekend while the volleyball teams will scrimmage. The volleyball season officially begins on Monday the 13th.

 

  On the college scene, Texas Tech welcomed 101 players to the first day of workouts in Lubbock. Head coach Tommy Tuberville headinginto his second season and he has rebuilt his coaching staff and went in search of players to fill his needs of speed, especially on defense.

 

  The West Texas A&M football team will check-in and open training camp on Thurday, August 9. The Buffs will play their opening game 21 days later, at CSU-Pueblo in Colorado.
