After its thrilling, 40-10 win over then-No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday evening at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, the West Texas A&M football team returned to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national poll at No. 25 Monday.

The Buffs have been among other receiving votes for the past two weeks following a season-opening loss at then-No. 6 Colorado State-Pueblo.  WT was ranked 24th in the preseason poll.

Defending national champion Pittsburg State (Kan.) leads the poll for the third consecutive week and has 29 of 30 first-place votes.  Minnesota State-Duluth, Colorado-State Pueblo, Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Winston-Salem State all remain the same in the top five from last week.

Midwestern State moves up from 16th to 15th after its 65-14 thumping of Texas A&M-Commerce in Arlington Thursday.  Abilene Christian also moves up one spot after its thrilling 34-31 come-from-behind win over Tarleton State Saturday.

Texas A&M-Kingsville, who upset then-No. 9 Abilene Christian 16-13 in Abilene a week before earning a No. 14 ranking prior to the WT game, fell out of the ranking.  The Javelinas are among others receiving votes with 37 behind Delta State who is the next team following the Buffaloes with 57 points.

The Buffaloes travel to Incarnate Word Saturday for a 7 p.m. kick with the Cardinals.  WT then returns home to host Tarleton State Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
